Released on July 31, 2026“Gone Fishin’ (For a Man)” by Samantha Rae turns a breakup story into something much lighter, cheekier, and surprisingly empowering. Rather than sitting around mourning the relationship, the song takes its central fishing metaphor and runs with it, creating a playful Pop Country and modern Americana track about getting back out there and looking for something better.

The story begins with the discovery of a note from an ex who has left, taking some familiar possessions with him. Samantha’s character could easily fall into frustration, but instead, she flips the situation into a joke and decides it is her turn to go “fishing” — only this time, she is searching for a man who will actually stick around and treat her well.

That attitude gives the song much of its personality. Samantha’s charismatic delivery works particularly well with the humorous songwriting, while Jay’s multi-instrumental production keeps the arrangement lively and polished. The musical relationship between the two gives the track a clean country-pop feel without stripping away its Americana character

The lyrics also keep the narrative moving, especially as the protagonist tests the dating waters and discovers that finding a new connection can come with its own surprises. There is a playful confidence running through the performance rather than bitterness.

“Gone Fishin’ (For a Man)” is ultimately about taking an unexpected ending and refusing to let it define the next chapter. With its catchy concept, upbeat country feel, and easygoing personality, Samantha Rae delivers a track that knows exactly how to have fun with heartbreak.
